In this freestyle scratch session, I’m scratching on Technics 1200 mk7 turntables and a Rane 72 DJ mixer at a showcase I did for Technics at Astro AVL. I improvised this DJ scratch session on Technics using just ONE sample: my favorite super-long-n-crsipy “AHHH” from “Bikini Wax” record.

I love the creative exercise of sticking to ONE SAMPLE and figuring out tons of different ways I can flip it.

It forces you to think outside the box of what you already know, so that you can discover new nuggets-of-scratch-gold. (Rather than just moving on to another sound when *you think* you’ve run out of techniques ;0)

This “AHHH” sesh also reminds me of an another mega “AHHH” sesh I did back in 2006 called “Coffee Cuts”.

2. Pick ONE scratch sample – JUST ONE – and see how many ways you can flip it.
3. Go as long as you can to push the limits of what you already know so you can break into new levels of experimentation and creativity.
