Learn the crossfader technique for the BASIC TRANSFORM scratch in 60 seconds! 🤖

📝 NOTE: Transforms (aka Transformers) can be performed in a TON of different ways with & without record/jog wheel manipulation

Practicing the fader hand by itself first should help you to get more comfortable with this tapping technique before you try to manipulate the record/jog wheel at the same time. 😘
ㅤ
🤖 HOW TO DO BASIC TRANSFORMS (Fader Only)
ㅤ
🚦Start Position:
Crossfader → CLOSED
Scratch Sample → a looped ENDLESS TONE (or Serato Control Tone) playing continuously
ㅤ
🤖 Step 1: Start to play the tone continuously
ㅤ
🤖 Step 2: Rest your thumb on the closed crossfader with minimal tension
ㅤ
🤖 Step 3: Tap the fader with your middle &/or pointer finger(s) to open it up & allow your thumb to act as a spring to naturally close the fader again
ㅤ
🤖 Step 4: Get creative & have fun tapping any rhythm you can think of
ㅤ
✅ PRO TIP: Spin the turntable platter/jog wheel counter clockwise for a cool modulation effect while tapping out your Basic Transforms!
ㅤ
🤖 Bonus Step 1: Press the start/stop button to turn the turntable platter off (or jog wheel in vinyl mode) & then pull the platter/jog wheel to spin it backwards so the tone starts playing in reverse.
ㅤ
🤖 Bonus Step 2: Then start tapping the fader for as long as you can until the platter/jog winds down & stops spinning on its own.
✅ PRO TIP: If you use Serato control vinyl, you can also just switch that deck to "phono" (instead of USB) to use the control tone as an endless tone too!
I`m also using the control tone during a portion of this video, in addition to the endless tone. If you listen closely you can hear the difference.😉

Joe Cooley was one of the first tablists to combine Triplet Tears with Chirps in various ways and popularized these combos back in the day. People often refer to the “Joe Cooley Scratch” as one specific technique, but it’s actually a broader style featuring multiple Chirp>Tear combo variations.
It`s easy to confuse Joe Cooley’s Tears as Skribbles because he performs them so fast, but don’t be fooled — those powerful puppies are indeed high-speed TRIPLET TEARS.
